Main Street Bridge Sidewalk Project - April 23, 2012 to July 31, 2012

Main Street Bridge Sidewalk Construction

Improvements to the Main Street Bridge will begin the week of April 23.  The upgrades include new sidewalks, utilities, new curb, a pedestrian crosswalk with inroad lighting and street lights that resemble the original lights on the Main Street Bridge.  Work will begin on the west side sidewalk (near Darryl's Music Hall) and is expected to be completed by June 1.  Work will then shift to the east sidewalk (near Peddler's Daughter).  Parking and pedestrian traffic will only be suspended on the side of the bridge that is under construction. Temporary barriers will be installed in the parking lanes, effectively closing parking until that side is completed.  Pedestrians should anticipate sidewalk closure during work hours and therefore should cross at signalized intersections at Water Street and Franklin/Canal Street.  Pedestrian traffic will be allowed to use the closed parking lanes outside of construction hours.  Lane closures will take place on an intermittent basis and will be posted daily as warranted.

The last component of the project will be the crosswalk with a median.  The project is estimated to be completed by July 31.  We will do everything possible to minimize the impacts to traffic, parking and pedestrians.  Thank you for your patience as we begin our upgrades on the Main Street Bridge.

Please do not hesitate to call the Division of Public Works at 589-3140 if you have any questions or concerns.
