Pools & Spas Licensing & Inspections

The Environmental Health Department is responsible for approximately 100 public pools and spas in the City of Nashua. These facilities undergo annual licensing, routine inspections, water sampling, plan reviews, and training seminars.

Inspection Items


Routine inspections consist of:
  • Operation of pool equipment
  • Presence of test kits and operation logs
  • Safety equipment requirements
  • Basic pool side testing for:
    • pH
    • Total alkalinity
    • Total dissolved solids
    • Calcium hardness
    • Algae
    • Sanitizer levels

Water Sample Testing


During pool visits a water sample is collected and tested by the department’s lab for the presence of:
  • Escherichia coli 
  • Total Coliforms
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa
  • Pseudomonas species

Licensing Fees

Annual licensing fees are as follows: 

  • Indoor Pool - $325
  • Outdoor and Wading Pools - $275
  • Spa and Hot Tubs - $250
